Book of Proverbs - Chapter 30 - Verse 8

30:8
Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me:

Meaning

This verse from the book of Proverbs reflects a prayer for balance and contentment in life. The speaker asks to be kept away from falsehood and materialism, acknowledging the harm they can bring. By seeking to be shielded from vanity and lies, the individual aims to maintain a pure and honest way of living. The second part of the verse is a plea for moderation in material wealth. By asking for neither poverty nor riches, the speaker recognizes the potential pitfalls of extreme financial situations. Poverty can bring hardship and suffering, while wealth can lead to pride and greed. Instead, the speaker requests to be provided with just enough to meet their needs - "food convenient for me." This demonstrates a desire for sufficiency and gratitude for what is provided, rather than excess or lack. Overall, this verse encourages a balanced and humble approach to life, emphasizing the importance of integrity, moderation, and contentment.
