Book of Proverbs - Chapter 24 - Verse 23

24:23
These things also belong to the wise. It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment.

Meaning

Within the context of this verse, the term "wise" refers to those who possess knowledge, discernment, and good judgement. The verse emphasizes the importance of impartiality and fairness in making decisions or judgments. It warns against showing favoritism or discrimination based on social status, wealth, or any other external factors. Instead, it encourages individuals to consider the facts, evidence, and merits of a case without being swayed by personal biases or preconceived notions. By doing so, one can ensure that justice is served and that decisions are made based on objective criteria rather than subjective preferences. This verse serves as a reminder that true wisdom involves upholding principles of fairness, equality, and honesty in all aspects of life, especially when it comes to making judgments that impact others.
