Book of Numbers - Chapter 27 - Verse 1

27:1
Then came the daughters of Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of Manasseh the son of Joseph: and these are the names of his daughters; Mahlah, Noah, and Hoglah, and Milcah, and Tirzah.

Meaning

The verse you are referring to comes from the book of Numbers in the Old Testament. It tells the story of the daughters of Zelophehad, who were descendants of Manasseh and Joseph. These daughters - Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah - are significant because they challenged the traditional inheritance laws of their time. In the absence of a male heir, they argued that they should be allowed to inherit their father's land. Their boldness led to a change in the laws regarding inheritance in Israel, allowing daughters to inherit land if there were no sons. This story showcases the importance of standing up for what is right and just, even if it means going against societal norms. The names of these daughters have been preserved in the Bible to honor their courage and determination in seeking justice.
