The Lord is declaring that He has planned an evil against this family from which they will not be able to escape. It serves as a lesson for all believers to remain humble and obedient to the will of the Lord.

Theological Overview

In this verse, the Lord is speaking a declaration of judgment against a particular family. The word 'evil' in this context is not referring to moral evil, but calamity or disaster. The Lord is warning that He has planned a disaster for this family, from which they will not be able to free themselves. The mention of not being able to remove their necks and not being able to go haughtily suggests that they will be humbled and brought low by the calamity that the Lord has devised for them. It serves as a reminder of the consequences of pride and arrogance, and the importance of humility before God. The mention that 'this time is evil' emphasizes the severity of the impending judgment and the urgency for repentance. This verse serves as a warning to all who would exalt themselves and live in disobedience, that they will ultimately face the consequences of their actions. It also highlights the sovereignty of God in executing judgment and the importance of seeking His forgiveness and mercy.
