28:10
Then said Jesus unto them, Be not afraid: go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there shall they see me.

Meaning

After Jesus' resurrection, he appeared to his disciples and reassured them not to be afraid. He told them to go and tell his followers to go to Galilee, where they would see him again. This message from Jesus was meant to provide comfort and encouragement to his disciples, who were likely feeling confused and fearful after his crucifixion. By instructing them to go to Galilee, Jesus was ensuring that his followers would have a tangible experience of his presence after the shocking events they had witnessed. This verse highlights the importance of faith and trust in Jesus' teachings, as he promises to meet his disciples again in Galilee. It also serves as a reminder that Jesus will always be present with his followers, even in times of uncertainty and doubt.

Theological Overview

Jesus' instruction to his disciples after his resurrection carries deep theological implications. By referring to his followers as "brethren," Jesus establishes a familial connection, emphasizing the intimacy of the relationship between himself and his disciples. This title reflects the bond of love and unity that exists within the community of believers. In instructing the disciples to go to Galilee, Jesus is recalling the place where he first called them to follow him. This symbolic act is a reminder of the disciples' initial commitment to Jesus and serves as a call to return to the roots of their faith. The promise that they will see him in Galilee points to the importance of gathering together as a community of believers to encounter the risen Lord. Through this directive, Jesus highlights the significance of community and fellowship in the life of a believer, reinforcing the idea that faith is not meant to be lived out in isolation but in communion with others.
