Book of Luke - Chapter 12 - Verse 27

12:27
Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

Meaning

When Jesus tells his disciples to consider the lilies and how they grow, he is inviting them to reflect on the beauty and simplicity of nature. Lilies are delicate flowers that require no effort on their part to bloom and flourish. They do not work or worry like humans do. Yet, despite their lack of labor, lilies are adorned with a beauty that surpasses even the splendor of King Solomon, known for his wealth and opulence. By drawing attention to the lilies, Jesus is encouraging his followers to trust in God's provision and care. Just as he provides for the lilies of the field, he will also provide for his beloved children. This verse serves as a reminder to prioritize faith and trust in God over anxiety and material concerns. It challenges us to find contentment in God's creation and the assurance of his love rather than fretting over worldly possessions.
