Book of Judges - Chapter 8 - Verse 1

8:1
And the men of Ephraim said unto him, Why hast thou served us thus, that thou calledst us not, when thou wentest to fight with the Midianites? And they did chide with him sharply.

Meaning

After the victory over the Midianites, Gideon's army pursued the Midianite kings and eventually captured them. As they returned triumphant, the men of Ephraim, one of the twelve tribes of Israel, were upset that they were not called to join Gideon's army in the battle against the Midianites. They felt slighted and confronted Gideon about it, demanding an explanation for being left out of the fight. The men of Ephraim believed they should have been involved in the battle, and their sharp rebuke of Gideon highlights the sensitivity of tribal relationships and the importance of unity among the tribes of Israel. This incident serves as a reminder of the need for clear communication and unity among God's people, even in times of victory and celebration.

Additionally, a word study on the phrase "chide with him sharply" reveals that the men of Ephraim rebuked Gideon strongly and harshly for his actions.
