Book of Judges - Chapter 5 - Verse 23

5:23
Curse ye Meroz, said the angel of the LORD, curse ye bitterly the inhabitants thereof; because they came not to the help of the LORD, to the help of the LORD against the mighty.

Meaning

When the angel of the LORD pronounced a curse upon Meroz and its inhabitants, it was because they failed to come to the aid of the LORD when He needed assistance against the mighty. This verse highlights the theme of loyalty and obedience to God in times of need. The city of Meroz symbolizes those who are indifferent or passive in the face of evil or injustice. The inhabitants of Meroz were condemned for their inaction and refusal to stand up for what is right. This serves as a reminder for believers to be vigilant and proactive in defending the truth and standing up for God's principles, even in the face of powerful opposition. The curse upon Meroz serves as a warning to all who may choose to remain silent or passive when they are called upon to defend God's cause. It underscores the importance of taking a stand for righteousness and actively supporting the work of the LORD when it is most needed.
