Book of Joshua - Chapter 6 - Verse 16

6:16
And it came to pass at the seventh time, when the priests blew with the trumpets, Joshua said unto the people, Shout; for the LORD hath given you the city.

Meaning

This verse comes from the story of the fall of Jericho in the Book of Joshua, which chronicles the Israelites' conquest of the Promised Land. In this particular passage, Joshua, the leader of the Israelites, is following God's instructions to take the city of Jericho. The Israelites had marched around the city once a day for six days, following the Ark of the Covenant and blowing trumpets, but on the seventh day, they were instructed to march around the city seven times. When the priests blew the trumpets at the seventh time, Joshua ordered the people to shout. This act of obedience and faith symbolizes the Israelites' trust in God's promise to give them victory over their enemies. The phrase "for the Lord hath given you the city" emphasizes the belief that it was God's power, not their own strength, that allowed them to conquer Jericho. This verse serves as a reminder of the importance of faith, obedience, and reliance on God in the face of challenges and obstacles.
