Book of Joshua - Chapter 3 - Verse 5

3:5
And Joshua said unto the people, Sanctify yourselves: for tomorrow the LORD will do wonders among you.

Meaning

When Joshua spoke to the people and told them to sanctify themselves, he was preparing them for a miraculous event that was about to take place. By sanctifying themselves, the people were meant to cleanse themselves spiritually, to set themselves apart, and to consecrate themselves to the Lord. This act of sanctification was a way for the people to show their reverence, devotion, and readiness to witness the wonders that the Lord was going to perform among them. Joshua's message was a call to holiness and readiness, indicating that when the people devoted themselves to God and lived in obedience to His commands, they were positioning themselves to experience the supernatural power and blessings of the Lord. The phrase "the LORD will do wonders among you" speaks to the expectation of divine intervention and miraculous works that were to come. It was an encouragement for the people to trust in the Lord's power and to be prepared for the extraordinary things that God was going to do in their midst. Thus, Joshua's words served as a reminder of the importance of spiritual preparation and faith in God's ability to work wonders in the lives of His people.

Theological Overview

The verse "And Joshua said unto the people, Sanctify yourselves: for tomorrow the LORD will do wonders among you." The term "sanctify" in this context means to set oneself apart and consecrate oneself for the purpose of being ready to witness the wonders of God.
