Book of Joshua - Chapter 17 - Verse 15

17:15
And Joshua answered them, If thou be a great people, then get thee up to the wood country, and cut down for thyself there in the land of the Perizzites and of the giants, if mount Ephraim be too narrow for thee.

Meaning

Joshua's response in this verse is a call to action and a challenge to the Israelites. He is essentially telling them that if they consider themselves a great people, they should prove it by expanding their territory. The wood country he refers to is an area inhabited by the Perizzites and giants, which suggests that it would not be an easy task. By suggesting that the land of mount Ephraim may be too narrow for them, Joshua is pushing the Israelites to seek more land and resources in order to thrive and fulfill their potential. This verse highlights the importance of ambition, perseverance, and bravery in the face of challenges. It also serves as a reminder that greatness comes not from mere words or self-proclamation, but from taking bold actions and embracing opportunities for growth and expansion.
