"A people cometh from the north country" refers to the Babylonians, who would invade Judah from the north. The "great nation...raised from the sides of the earth" refers to the Babylonian empire, which would rise to power and conquer many nations, including Judah. This prophecy was a warning to the people of Judah about the impending destruction and exile they would face if they continued to disobey God. The verse serves as a reminder of God's sovereignty and the consequences of turning away from Him. It also highlights the importance of heeding God's warnings and following His commandments to avoid suffering the same fate as the people of Judah.
