The fire mentioned in the verse symbolizes destruction and judgment, as the power of the one true God overcomes all false idols. The phrase "he shall burn them, and carry them away captives" suggests that these idols will be utterly destroyed and their influence over the people will be broken. The imagery of the shepherd putting on his garment signifies ownership and control, highlighting God's authority over the land of Egypt. Theological Overview

In this verse from the book of Zechariah, the prophet speaks of a time when God will bring judgment upon the gods of Egypt. The word "kindle" in this context signifies the divine anger and judgment that will be poured out upon the false gods of Egypt. The imagery of burning and carrying away the idols emphasizes the complete destruction and removal of these false deities. The mention of the conqueror "arraying himself with the land of Egypt" suggests a complete takeover and control, likened to a shepherd putting on his garment. This symbolizes the conqueror's authority and dominion over the land. Despite the destruction and judgment, the verse ends on a note of peace, as the conqueror is said to go forth in peace from the land. This portrays God's ultimate control and victory over all earthly powers, bringing about peace and justice in the end.
