Book of Jeremiah - Chapter 38 - Verse 6

38:6
Then took they Jeremiah, and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah the son of Hammelech, that was in the court of the prison: and they let down Jeremiah with cords. And in the dungeon there was no water, but mire: so Jeremiah sunk in the mire.

Meaning

Jeremiah was a prophet in ancient Israel who faced persecution and imprisonment for speaking out against the sins of the people and warning them of the consequences of their actions. In this particular verse, we see Jeremiah being thrown into a dungeon by his enemies, where there was no water, only mire. This act was meant to further degrade and humiliate Jeremiah, as being trapped in a filthy pit would have been a miserable experience. However, even in this difficult situation, Jeremiah remained faithful to God and continued to trust in Him. This verse serves as a reminder that even in our darkest moments, God is with us and will never abandon us. It also highlights the importance of perseverance and faith in the face of adversity, as Jeremiah's unwavering commitment to his beliefs ultimately led to his deliverance.
