Book of Jeremiah - Chapter 13 - Verse 10

13:10
This evil people, which refuse to hear my words, which walk in the imagination of their heart, and walk after other gods, to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle, which is good for nothing.

Meaning

In this verse, God is conveying a message about the consequences of disobedience and idolatry. The "evil people" being referred to are those who have turned away from God and refuse to listen to His words. Instead, they follow their own desires and worship false gods. God compares these rebellious individuals to a girdle that is useless and good for nothing. Just as a girdle is meant to be a useful accessory but serves no purpose if not worn properly, so too are those who reject God's teachings and turn to other gods.

By using this analogy, God is emphasizing the futility of disobedience and the emptiness of worshiping idols. He is highlighting the inevitable consequences that follow when people stray from His path. Just as a girdle without a wearer is of no use, so too are the people who choose to ignore God's words and walk in their own ways. Through this comparison, God is underscoring the ultimate worthlessness of turning away from Him and choosing to follow other gods.
