Book of Hosea - Chapter 2 - Verse 8

2:8
For she did not know that I gave her corn, and wine, and oil, and multiplied her silver and gold, which they prepared for Baal.

Meaning

Within this verse, the speaker is expressing disappointment and sadness at the fact that the people, particularly a woman referred to as "she," did not realize that it was God who provided them with abundant blessings such as corn, wine, oil, silver, and gold. Instead, they attributed these blessings to the false god Baal. The speaker highlights the ingratitude and lack of acknowledgment shown towards God's grace and generosity. The verse serves as a reminder of the importance of recognizing and being grateful for the blessings that come from God. It also emphasizes the dangers of idolatry and placing one's trust and worship in false gods. By drawing attention to the misguided priorities of the people, the verse prompts readers to reflect on their own attitudes towards God's provisions in their lives and to ensure that they give credit where it is due.
