Theological Overview

Looking unto Jesus as the author and finisher of our faith is an essential aspect of Christian belief. By fixing our gaze on Jesus, we acknowledge Him as the source and perfecter of our faith. The word "author" in Greek is "archegon," which can also be translated as "pioneer" or "leader." Jesus blazed the trail for us to follow in faith, showing us the way to eternal life through His own example. The word "finisher" in Greek is "teleiotes," which means one who brings something to completion or perfection. This underscores Jesus' role in perfecting our faith through His sacrifice on the cross. The verse emphasizes that Jesus endured the cross and despised the shame for the joy set before Him. This reveals the depth of His love and commitment to fulfilling the Father's plan for salvation. As a result, Jesus is now seated at the right hand of the throne of God, demonstrating His exalted position and authority. By looking to Jesus and trusting in Him, we are encouraged to persevere in our own faith journey, knowing that He is the ultimate source of our salvation.
