Meaning

In this verse from the book of Genesis, the men who are actually angels sent by God, are warning Lot about the impending destruction of the city of Sodom. They instruct Lot to gather his immediate family - his wife, his sons, his daughters, and even his sons-in-law (that is, the husbands of his daughters) - and anyone else he may have in the city, and to bring them out of Sodom before it is destroyed. This verse shows the mercy and compassion of God, who is giving Lot a chance to save his loved ones from the destruction that is about to come upon the city. Theological Overview

When examining the theological interpretation of Genesis 19:12, it is important to consider the context in which the verse is situated. The men in this verse are actually angels sent by God to rescue Lot and his family from the impending destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. Their instructions to Lot reflect God's mercy and desire to save His people from judgment. The men specifically ask Lot if he has any other family members in the city that need to be saved besides his immediate family. This demonstrates God's concern for the well-being of all those who belong to His covenant people, even extending to in-laws and other relatives. The word "bring them out of this place" emphasizes the urgency and importance of obeying God's command without delay.
