Book of Ezra - Chapter 8 - Verse 15

8:15
And I gathered them together to the river that runneth to Ahava; and there abode we in tents three days: and I viewed the people, and the priests, and found there none of the sons of Levi.

Meaning

After their return from exile in Babylon, Ezra and a group of Israelites journeyed to Jerusalem. Along the way, they paused at the river that runs to Ahava, where they stayed in tents for three days. During this time, Ezra assessed the people and the priests to ensure they were in alignment with God's law. It was during this examination that Ezra discovered something troubling - none of the sons of Levi, the priestly tribe tasked with ministering to the Israelites and offering sacrifices in the temple, were present among them. This absence was concerning as the Levites held a crucial role in the religious life of the Israelites. Without their presence, proper worship and observance of God's commandments could not be upheld. This discovery likely prompted Ezra to take action to rectify the situation before continuing their journey to Jerusalem.
