Book of Ezekiel - Chapter 38 - Verse 16

38:16
And thou shalt come up against my people of Israel, as a cloud to cover the land; it shall be in the latter days, and I will bring thee against my land, that the heathen may know me, when I shall be sanctified in thee, O Gog, before their eyes.

Meaning

The verse describes a prophecy from the book of Ezekiel in the Bible, where God foretells of a future attack on the land of Israel by a nation called Gog. Gog is described as coming against the people of Israel as a cloud covering the land, indicating a massive and overwhelming force. This event is said to take place in the latter days, suggesting a future and distant time. The purpose of this attack is for the heathen, or non-believers, to come to know God through the actions and consequences of Gog's invasion. God promises to be sanctified, or glorified, through the defeat of Gog in front of their eyes. This verse has been interpreted by scholars as a warning of a future conflict in which God will ultimately demonstrate His power and sovereignty to all nations.
