Book of Exodus - Chapter 27 - Verse 8

27:8
Hollow with boards shalt thou make it: as it was shewed thee in the mount, so shall they make it.

Meaning

When Moses received instructions from God on how to build the tabernacle, he was given very detailed and specific requirements. One of these instructions was to build the tabernacle with boards that were hollow. This may seem like a small detail, but it actually holds great significance. The hollow boards were designed to make the tabernacle lightweight and portable, as the Israelites were traveling through the desert at the time. This verse emphasizes the importance of following God's instructions exactly as they were given, without deviation. It also serves as a reminder that every aspect of the tabernacle was created with divine guidance, ensuring its holiness and significance for the Israelites. By following the instructions given to him on Mount Sinai, Moses was able to create a tabernacle that served as a sacred space where the Israelites could worship God and receive His presence.

Theological Overview

The theological interpretation of the verse 'Hollow with boards shalt thou make it: as it was shewed thee in the mount, so shall they make it.' involves understanding the divine instruction given to Moses by God for the construction of the tabernacle. The use of the phrase "Hollow with boards" indicates the specific construction method to be employed, emphasizing the importance of precision and attention to detail in carrying out God's commands. This directive serves as a reminder of the sacred nature of the tabernacle, which was intended to be a dwelling place for God's presence among the Israelites. The reference to the instructions being given 'in the mount' alludes to Mount Sinai, where Moses received the Ten Commandments and other laws from God. By following the specifications revealed to him on the mountain, Moses ensured the tabernacle was built according to God's divine plan. Thus, this verse highlights the importance of obedience and adherence to God's revealed will in fulfilling the purposes of His kingdom.
