Theological Overview

In this verse from Exodus 1:10, Pharaoh is speaking about the Israelites and their growing population. The phrase "deal wisely with them" is often interpreted as a call to oppress or subjugate the Israelites in order to prevent them from becoming too powerful. The fear is that if the Israelites continue to multiply unchecked, they may pose a threat to the Egyptians. This fear is further underscored by the concern that the Israelites may join forces with their enemies in the event of a war, fighting against the Egyptians and potentially leaving the land. The term "wisely" in this context can be seen as a strategic or political move to maintain control and power over the Israelites, highlighting the oppressive nature of Pharaoh's intentions.
