Book of Ephesians - Chapter 6 - Verse 12

6:12
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Meaning

This verse from the book of Ephesians highlights the spiritual warfare that Christians face in their lives. It emphasizes that our battle is not against other human beings, but against unseen forces of evil that seek to undermine our faith and disrupt our relationship with God. The "principalities, powers, and rulers of the darkness of this world" refer to spiritual entities that work in opposition to the kingdom of God. These forces of darkness manifest in spiritual wickedness in high places, posing a threat to believers and seeking to lead them astray from the path of righteousness.

As Christians, it is essential to recognize that our struggles are not merely physical or material, but spiritual in nature. This awareness allows us to equip ourselves with the spiritual armor mentioned in the following verses of Ephesians, such as the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit (the word of God). By putting on this armor and relying on the power of God, we can stand firm against the schemes of the devil and overcome the spiritual battles we face in our lives.
