Book of Deuteronomy - Chapter 28 - Verse 38

28:38
Thou shalt carry much seed out into the field, and shalt gather but little in; for the locust shall consume it.

Meaning

This verse from the Books of Deuteronomy is a warning from God to the Israelites about the consequences of disobedience and neglecting their duties. The verse symbolizes the concept of reaping what one sows and highlights the importance of hard work and diligence. By carrying much seed into the field, the Israelites are expected to put in the effort and invest in their crops. However, the gathering of little in return signifies that their efforts will be in vain as the locusts will come and consume their harvest. This serves as a lesson about the importance of following God's commandments and staying true to one's responsibilities, as neglect and disobedience will ultimately lead to failure and loss. It reinforces the idea that one must be mindful of their actions and diligent in their work in order to achieve success and avoid setbacks.

When examining the theological interpretation of the verse "Thou shalt carry much seed out into the field, and shalt gather but little in; for the locust shall consume it," we see a message of consequences for disobedience and lack of faith.
