Book of Daniel - Chapter 11 - Verse 41

11:41
He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon.

Meaning

The verse "He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon." speaks of a prophecy in the Bible regarding a powerful ruler who will conquer many lands, including the glorious land (Israel). However, despite his conquests, there are three specific regions that will escape his grasp: Edom, Moab, and Ammon. These regions were inhabited by the descendants of Esau (Edom), Lot (Moab), and Ammon, who were relatives of the Israelites. The significance of these regions escaping the ruler's hand could be interpreted as a sign of God's protection over them or as a fulfillment of a promise made to these ancient peoples. It serves as a reminder that even in the midst of great turmoil and destruction, God remains faithful to those who are His chosen people.

Theological Overview

In this verse from the book of Daniel, the theological interpretation focuses on the notion of the "glorious land" as being a reference to Israel. The mention of many countries being overthrown highlights the destructive nature of the events described in the passage. The specific mention of Edom, Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon as those who shall escape out of the enemy's hand reveals a possible historical context for the prophecy, as these were neighboring nations to Israel. The word study of "glorious" emphasizes the splendor and magnificence of the land that will be invaded, adding to the gravity of the situation. Additionally, examining the names Edom, Moab, and Ammon can shed light on the significance of these particular nations being spared. Overall, this verse speaks to the themes of warfare, conquest, and divine protection, offering a complex and layered message to those who seek to understand its meaning.
