Book of 2 Samuel - Chapter 19 - Verse 42

19:42
And all the men of Judah answered the men of Israel, Because the king is near of kin to us: wherefore then be ye angry for this matter? have we eaten at all of the king's cost? or hath he given us any gift?

Meaning

In this verse, the men of Judah are responding to the men of Israel's accusation regarding their loyalty to the king. The men of Judah explain that their allegiance to the king is due to their kinship with him, emphasizing the close familial ties that exist between them. They question the reason for the Israelites' anger, pointing out that they have not received any special treatment or favors from the king that would warrant suspicion of disloyalty. The men of Judah are trying to convey that their loyalty to the king is not based on any material gain or benefits they have received from him, but rather on their shared heritage and kinship. This verse highlights the importance of loyalty, kinship, and unity among the people of Israel, emphasizing the bond that exists between them despite any external differences or conflicts.
