Meaning

In this verse, King David instructs two young men, Ahimaaz and Jonathan, to serve as messengers and bring him information about the ongoing battle between his forces and the rebel armies. Theological Overview

In this verse from 2 Samuel 15:36, we see King David instructing two men, Ahimaaz and Jonathan, to serve as messengers, relaying information back to him. The names of these two messengers hold significance in the Hebrew language. Ahimaaz means "brother of anger" or "brother of wrath," which could symbolize the anger and punishment that the enemies of David will face. On the other hand, Jonathan means "gift of Jehovah" or "Jehovah has given," signifying the divine provision and intervention in the midst of chaos and betrayal. The use of these names in sending messages back to King David could represent the idea of relying on God's provision and protection in times of trouble. Additionally, the presence of these two messengers, Ahimaaz and Jonathan, who were both sons of prominent priests, Zadok and Abiathar, possibly highlights the importance of spiritual guidance and wisdom in delivering important messages.
