Book of 2 Kings - Chapter 4 - Verse 7

4:7
Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children of the rest.

Meaning

This verse comes from the story of the widow in 2 Kings 4:1-7. The widow, faced with debt and the threat of losing her two sons to slavery, sought help from the prophet Elisha. Elisha instructed her to gather empty jars and pour her remaining oil into them. The oil miraculously kept flowing until all the jars were filled, providing enough oil to sell and pay off her debt. This story is a powerful reminder of God's provision and faithfulness. It shows that when we turn to Him in times of need, He is able to provide abundantly beyond what we can imagine. The instruction to "sell the oil, pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children of the rest" demonstrates God's desire to not only meet our immediate needs but also to bless us beyond what we could ask or think. This verse is a beautiful illustration of God's love and care for His children, even in the midst of difficult circumstances.
