Book of 2 Corinthians - Chapter 6 - Verse 13

6:13
Now for a recompense in the same, (I speak as unto my children,) be ye also enlarged.

Meaning

In this verse, the Apostle Paul is speaking to the Corinthians about the concept of generosity and giving. He encourages them to give willingly and generously, not out of obligation, but out of a genuine desire to help others. Paul likens this act of giving to being a parent to his children, urging them to also be "enlarged" in their hearts and minds when it comes to giving. The word "enlarged" can be interpreted as expanding one's capacity for compassion, generosity, and kindness towards others. By being open-hearted and open-handed in their giving, the Corinthians can not only bring blessings to those in need but also experience personal growth and enrichment in their own lives. This verse serves as a reminder to all believers to give with a cheerful heart and a spirit of abundance, trusting in God's provision and blessings to flow back to them in return.

Theological Overview

In this verse, the phrase "Now for a recompense in the same" can be understood as a call for reciprocity or repayment in kind. The Apostle Paul is urging the Corinthians to respond to his love and care for them with a similar level of affection. The term "recompense" implies that there is a debt to be repaid, not necessarily a negative connotation, but rather a recognition of mutual responsibility and relationship. The phrase "be ye also enlarged" can be interpreted in a theological sense as a call for spiritual growth and maturity. Paul is encouraging the Corinthians to continue to grow in their faith, knowledge, and understanding of Christ. The word "enlarged" suggests an expansion or increase in their capacity to love, serve, and live out their faith in practical ways. Overall, this verse highlights the importance of reciprocity, growth, and maturity in the Christian walk.
