Meaning

In this verse, King Zedekiah is described as rebelling against King Nebuchadnezzar, despite making an oath in the name of God. This act of rebellion shows Zedekiah's disobedience and lack of faith in God's guidance. By stiffening his neck and hardening his heart, Zedekiah demonstrates a refusal to turn to the Lord God of Israel for help and guidance. This verse serves as a cautionary tale about the consequences of turning away from God, even when facing challenges and difficulties. It highlights the importance of remaining faithful and obedient to God's will, even in the face of adversity. This verse serves as a reminder of the importance of staying true to one's faith and seeking God's guidance in all aspects of life.

The individual mentioned rebelled against King Nebuchadnezzar, despite having sworn an oath by God to him. This act of rebellion not only displays a lack of respect for earthly authority but also a rejection of the divine authority represented in the oath. The stiffening of the neck and hardening of the heart are metaphors for stubbornness and refusal to repent and turn back to the Lord God of Israel.
