Book of 2 Chronicles - Chapter 34 - Verse 4

34:4
And they brake down the altars of Baalim in his presence; and the images, that were on high above them, he cut down; and the groves, and the carved images, and the molten images, he brake in pieces, and made dust of them, and strowed it upon the graves of them that had sacrificed unto them.

Meaning

In this verse, we witness a powerful display of religious zeal and devotion to God by King Josiah. Baal was a Canaanite god associated with fertility and was worshipped through various rituals, including sacrifices. However, Baal worship was considered idolatrous and went against the commandments of God. King Josiah, in his efforts to purify the land of idolatry and restore the worship of the one true God, ordered the destruction of altars, images, groves, and idols dedicated to Baal. By breaking down these symbols of false worship and desecrating the sites where sacrifices were made to these idols, Josiah not only eradicated the physical manifestations of idolatry but also sent a strong message to the people that their allegiance should be to God alone. This verse reminds us of the importance of staying true to our faith and not allowing anything to come between us and our devotion to God.
