17:19
These waited on the king, beside those whom the king put in the fenced cities throughout all Judah.

Meaning

This verse from the book of 2 Chronicles highlights the organization and structure of King Solomon's kingdom in Judah. The verse describes two groups of individuals who served the king: one group consisted of those who were appointed to be in charge of the fortified cities throughout all of Judah, while the other group waited on the king directly. The individuals in the fortified cities were responsible for maintaining order and security in these strategic locations, ensuring the protection of the kingdom. On the other hand, those who waited on the king served him in various capacities, attending to his needs and assisting him in his royal duties. Together, these two groups of individuals helped to ensure the smooth functioning of the kingdom under King Solomon's reign. This verse serves as a reminder of the importance of organization and division of labor in achieving success in any endeavor, including the governance of a kingdom.
