Book of 2 Chronicles - Chapter 1 - Verse 3

1:3
So Solomon, and all the congregation with him, went to the high place that was at Gibeon; for there was the tabernacle of the congregation of God, which Moses the servant of the LORD had made in the wilderness.

Meaning

In this verse, we see Solomon and the congregation going to the high place in Gibeon where the tabernacle of God was located. This high place was significant because it was where the tabernacle, which Moses had made in the wilderness as a place of worship for the Israelites, was set up. The tabernacle was a portable sanctuary that housed the Ark of the Covenant and was the central point of worship for the Israelites during their time in the desert. It symbolized the presence of God among His people and was a place for them to offer sacrifices, seek forgiveness, and worship the Lord. By going to the high place at Gibeon where the tabernacle was located, Solomon and the congregation were showing their dedication to God and their desire to seek Him in worship and prayer. This verse highlights the importance of gathering together in worship and seeking the presence of God in our lives.

Theological Overview

The mention of Solomon and the congregation going to the high place at Gibeon in this verse highlights the importance of worshipping at a designated place. The high place was where the tabernacle of the congregation of God was situated, which Moses had constructed in the wilderness. This emphasizes the continuity and reverence for the sacred structure established by God through Moses. The fact that Solomon and the people gathered at this specific location signifies the significance of honoring God in a place dedicated for worship. Additionally, the reference to Moses as the servant of the LORD who made the tabernacle underscores the divine origin and authority of the structure. This verse serves as a reminder of the importance of gathering in a designated place to worship God and seek His presence, as it was demonstrated by Solomon and the congregation at the high place in Gibeon.
