Meaning

The verse " And this is the reason of the levy which king Solomon raised; for to build the house of the LORD, and his own house, and Millo, and the wall of Jerusalem, and Hazor, and Megiddo, and Gezer." describes the purpose behind King Solomon's taxation of his people. The levy was to fund the construction of several important buildings and structures in the kingdom. Firstly, the funds were used to build the house of the Lord, which refers to the Temple in Jerusalem, a central place of worship for the Israelites. Additionally, Solomon used the funds to build his own house, showcasing his wealth and power as a king. The resources also went towards constructing Millo, likely a fortified structure, as well as the wall of Jerusalem for defense. Furthermore, the funds were used for the construction of important cities such as Hazor, Megiddo, and Gezer, indicating Solomon's efforts to strengthen and expand his kingdom. Overall, this verse highlights the importance of infrastructure and religious buildings in Solomon's reign and the strategic investments he made to solidify his rule.

The theological interpretation of this verse from Kings 1:9:15 reveals the importance of prioritizing the building of God's house before one's own. King Solomon's levy was raised not only for the construction of his own residence but also for the house of the Lord in Jerusalem, as well as for fortifying cities like Hazor, Megiddo, and Gezer. This demonstrates a commitment to both spiritual and physical protection, acknowledging the need for divine provision and protection in all aspects of life. The mention of Millo, a part of Jerusalem, and the wall of the city further emphasize the importance of safeguarding the holy city.
