Meaning

This verse from the book of 1 Samuel describes the aftermath of the deaths of King Saul and his sons in battle. After their bodies were left on display by the Philistines, the valiant men of Jabesh took it upon themselves to retrieve the bodies and give them a proper burial. The men showed great respect and honor for Saul and his sons by bringing them to Jabesh and burying their bones under an oak tree, symbolizing a final resting place for the fallen warriors. The act of fasting for seven days also signifies a period of mourning and reverence for the deceased.
